For many years, we have assisted Space Norway in establishing broadband in the Arctic. On August 12, 2024, two Norwegian satellites were launched from California to orbit around the Arctic. This marks a significant and decisive step in the program.
The launch of these two communication satellites is important for both Norwegian and international space history. It is Norway’s largest space project to date, and the first time Norwegian satellites have been sent into a so-called high-elliptical orbit. The satellites will ensure that broadband coverage can be offered for the first time to planes and ships in Arctic regions. The project highlights Norway’s role as a significant player in the Arctic.
Since the beginning of the project, Hjort has provided Space Norway with advice related to Norwegian law. We have assisted in negotiations with clients, suppliers, and other partners in the project. More recently, we have particularly assisted with updates to agreements related to the financing of the project.
Our team has consisted of Rolf Chr. Trolle Andersen, Jørn A. Uggerud, Mariann Andersen, and Petter Enholm. We have strong practice areas within TMT, contract law, and banking and finance law, and the combination has been essential in working on this project.
